Fatai Rollig Dollar |
What
else could slow down veteran highlife singer, Fatai Rolling Dollar, if
not an illness? In the past one decade when he particularly bounced back
with Won Kere si Number, he has been one of the most patronised early-generation musicians in the country.
Lagos fun lovers would normally
encounter him at hit spots such as O’Jez, Freedom Park, Goethe Institut,
French Cultural Centre and even eyebrow, The Eko Hotel. But such
people, if observant enough, would also have noticed that the old man
has not been visible in recent times. The reason is that he is sick.
Reports indicate that he is currently
receiving treatment at Ahmadiya Hospital in Ijaye area of Lagos, not far
from where he lives in Abule Egba. Although the musician, who has the
reputation of being the first mentor to juju maestro, Ebenezer Obey, is
85, his fans know that his agility on stage, the strength of his voice,
mean that he still has a lot to offer.
They would therefore wish him
quick recovery so that he can further excite time with his ageless
talent.
When our correspondent called him on the phone on Thursday evening, no one answered it.
