Funke Akindele Insists She Was “Abused Emotionally and Verbally” by Her Ex Husband, Kehinde Oloyede

Nollywood actress, FunkeAkindele, is the latest star going through
the travails of separation just after 14 months of her celebrated
marriage to estate developer, Kehinde Oloyede writes BIODUN KUPOLUYI..
Though Kehinde was the first to go public with the news of their
separation via popular social network site, Facebook, The Return of
Jenifa star gave her ears to her in-laws who felt she could still change
her mind and that separation actually is not the solution to the
problem. However, Kehinde’s Facebook divorce notice made it easier for
the star actress to call it quit finally; “That place is not for me, I
have been through hell and back,” she told E24-7MAGAZINE on Friday. The
press statement released by her management, NEECEE Entertainment and
signed by Ayo Ola Mohammed on the separation eventually cleared the air
on Friday evening. It reads “On behalf of our client, star actress,
FunkeAkindele, we want to formally inform you that after due
consultation and consideration, she’s now separated from Mr.
KehindeOloyede as his wife. She hereby urges her fans and all concerned
to pray and wish her the best as she moves on in her career. Kindly note
that this is the first and only official statement from FunkeAkindele
on the matter and she will be glad her wish is respected.” The terse
statement debunked claims online and a national daily newspaper that she
sent sms that her marriage was intact.
Though the marriage was conceived over a year ago, many reasons such
as long shooting days spent on various locations, and a cocktail of
sundry options that are regular fixtures in celebrity life splits
contributed to the premature termination of the relationship.
Sources close to Funke disclosed to E24-7 MAGAZINE that the humorous
actress had never had it so bad and despite her high profile status, she
wanted to stay in her marriage to work things out, but there were too
many bumps on the road, and eventually the vehicle of their love tumbled
and crashed beyond repair. She hinted that she only enjoyed the first
two months of the marriage. “I was abused emotionally and verbally.
Really, I felt we could work things out when the trouble started two
months after the marriage, but I made up my mind and shut the door of
the marriage at him when the trouble was coming to me too much. I
stooped to conquer him; buried my fame and name to make him my husband,
but it did not work. At a point in time, I asked if it’s not the same
man that was all over me before we married. He nearly got me off my
career. He called me severally; I did not pick his calls but when he
realized my silence was tormenting him, he took to Facebook. It’s
alright. Ask him when did he come to my house last? He left me here in
my rented apartment with nothing and he will just dash in and dash out.
He gets abusive, caustic anytime we have a misunderstanding and often
told me to my face, he’s going to his wife in Oshodi.”
At Oshodi, she said, she received a warm welcome from the wife, Fadekemi, but constant humiliation from Kehinde.
“She was really loved by the kids at home; she enjoyed taking them
out to eateries and stores. Sometimes, they spent the weekend with her
and she followed them to school. The children will surely miss her,” our
source, close to the family, said. Now that the cookie has crumbled,
Kehinde, she said has been calling and sending text messages begging her
to come back.
“He sent me sms that he has seen a buyer for his house at Adeniyi
Jones for N40million. He asked me if he should sell it and that if he
does, he will buy me a new car and a rent me a new apartment. Why now? I
don’t need all that, I want my sanity.” After she ignored him, he sent
her another text abusing her and calling her names. “So you can see that
he does not mean well for me,” she re-iterated. E24-7 checks frevealed
as at Saturday evening Kehinde was combing the nooks and crannies of
Ikorodu to locate Funke’s dad’s house. He boasted: “I will do anything
to win my wife back.”
Over the past few months, Funke and Kehinde had started to see things
differently so the need to pull out became inexorably high. It was
revealed exclusively to E24-7 MAGAZINE by sources close to Funke, that
she was ready to go on with Kehinde’s warts and all but for the fact
that loyalty has never been his strong point- his children from
different women tell it all. Kehinde, our source hinted, has a roving
eye when it comes to the opposite sex and this often causes friction
between him and his celebrity wife. There are tales about his dalliance
with his Personal Assistant, Funke. Observers of the marriage from
inception feel that when fame and money come to a meeting point in a
relationship, it will result in problems if the couple are not committed
and disciplined. Moreover, a byproduct of this alliance is usually ego
and it kills celebrity marriages faster than one can open the pages of
tabloids and magazines. But this is not the case with Funke. “I respect
him to the end but he chose to treat me that way. He said he wanted to
clip my wings.”
Funke and Kehinde rarely spent substantial time together even at the
peak of their marriage. Both kept to hectic schedules by virtue of their
chosen professions. While Funke is often involved in back-to-back
shooting on movie sets, Kehinde jumps from one construction site to
another; pressing buttons for his political ambitions; and keeping dates
with his wife at home and other women by the side. This sort of
arrangement invariably makes keeping faith with the vows of the union
very difficult. In the long run, suspicion will rear its ugly head and
the couple will eventually drift apart, especially when they don’t live
under the same roof. This is best exemplified in Funke and Kehinde’s
break up.
Besides, Kehinde’s disturbing and haunting pasts have repeatedly
stared Funke right in the face, and according to E24-7 MAGAZINE’s
impeccable source, Funke learnt shockingly that her once beloved hubby
was expelled from the University of Jos almost as soon as he was
matriculated as a student of the ivory tower. His admission, according
to our source, was faulty right from the beginning and since that first
attempt at tertiary education went awry, he shut his door at education.
When he returned from Jos, he found strength in his entrepreneurial
skill coupled with the influence and support of his mother, a market
leader and successful businesswoman; he became an estate developer,
building chains of shops in Oshodi market.
Gradually, he crept into politics and his popularity soared that he
became a well-known grassroots politician and a great mobilizer. More
than twice, Kehinde, who belonged to the People’s Democratic Party
(PDP), and his supporters have clashed with the NATIONAL UNION OF ROAD
TRANSPORT WORKERS (NURTW) Treasurer, MusiliuAkinsanya aka MC Oluomo an
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) loyalist. Kehinde has also contested
for elective posts twice; most recent, was the Oshodi/Isolo Constituency
1 House of Representatives in 2007 which he also lost.
Many years after, he reawakened his political ambition and quickly
re-aligned himself by joining the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). To
shore up his image, he found in Funke who has become monstrously popular
with her movie, Jenifa and the sequel, The Return of Jenifa, a ready
tool. He convinced the favourite actress to lead him to the Leader of
the Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he had
assaulted many years ago during the market women leadership tussle
between his mother, AlhajaAlmaroof and the late Iyaloja General
AlhajaAbibatMogaji. After he atoned for his ‘sins,’ he joined the train
of well- wishers that went to London to felicitate with the former
governor when one of his sons graduated from a university in London.
Reliable sources told E24-7 MAGAZINE that Kehinde’s lost bid to win the
contract to rebuild Oshodi market really threw him off balance and that
probably made him to turn the heat on his latest wife, Funke who wanted
his attention.
Despite the ill-fated turn that the relationship has taken, many of
Funke’s fans can’t help but wonder if she hadn’t known that the union
was doomed to fail from the onset. The reason for this thinking is not
far-fetched; firstly, Funke opted for the Muslim marriage even when many
thought that she would go to the court registry to cement her marriage
with Oloyede.
Secondly, sources close to the family said Kehinde was
warned by spiritualists not to venture into the marriage but he declined
and did not share it with Funke. In the same vein, Funke was told not
to go into it by her parents but she asked them to respect her wish. And
as it plays out, she is free to remarry anytime she pleases without
unnecessary legal impediments. This and many other factors contribute to
the opinion shared by many of her fans that the delectable thespian
knew that the future of her marriage with Oloyede will not be as long,
colourful and bright as it appeared with all the glam. It’s just too
quick and too fast to break. Now that the requiem mass has been sung for
the once celebrated union, one cannot but remember the view of
controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh, who declared that Nollywood brides
often marry “horribly.” Sources close to Funke, who has returned to
Asaba’s movie location on Saturday morning, believe that though her
action may not make perfect sense to many now as the confusion created
may be laughed at while she goes through the tears, she’s confident that
she will smile again.

Woman beats three-year-old girl to death for vomitting

Rebecca and the dead child
A
21-year-old woman, Rebecca Bassey, has been arrested by the Lagos State
Police Command for allegedly beating her husband’s three-year-old
niece, Deborah Bassey, to death.
According to police authorities, the suspect beat up the girl because she vomited and defecated on herself.
A police source told PUNCH on Thursday that the incident occurred at Ijaiye Ojokoro area of the state on July 22, 2013.
He said, “The victim (Deborah) lost her
mother in 2010. Early this year, Deborah’s father was evicted from his
home and he decided to send Deborah and his second child to go and stay
with his brother, Vincent, until he settles down.
“Deborah and her nine-year-old sister
were living with Vincent and his wife, Rebecca, in a one-room apartment
at Powerline, Jankara, Ijaiye Ojokoro. However, Rebecca was always
maltreating the two children.”
According to police investigations, on the day of the incident, Deborah woke up around 5.30am with a high temperature.
The three-year-old girl was said to have
started vomiting and defecating soon after. This was said to have
angered Rebecca, who instead of administering treatment to the child,
decided to beat her up.
A police source said, “In the process of
beating the girl, the suspect pushed her and she fell, hitting her head
against the edge of a wooden chair in the room.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the
victim started to bleed from the head. Some neighbours rushed her to
Ahmadiyya Hospital, where she was referred to Orile Agege General
Hospital where she later died.
A woman leader in the area, Kudirat
Ogunseyi, was said to have reported the matter to Ijaye Ojokoro Police
Division after which the suspect was arrested.
Some neighbours, in their statements at
the police station, described the suspect as a hot-tempered woman, who
was fond of beating the children.
“The way that woman beats up the
children was very worrying to the extent that the landlord had
threatened to evict them,” one of the statements reads.
Vincent told the police that he was not present when his wife beat his niece to death.
“I was not at home when the incident
happened. I am a photographer during daytime but I work as a
vigilante group member. So I hardly sleep at home,” he said.
The suspect however said she did not
kill the victim deliberately. She said she only pushed Deborah and she
hit her head against the chair.
“I am a housewife and I have a
10-month-old baby. I did not mean to kill her (Deborah). I only pushed
her because she vomited and defecated on the floor. I was only trying to
correct her. It was not deliberate. I am a mother too and I know how I
would feel if my son was killed,” she said.
It was learnt that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
A source at the SCID said the police
were waiting for autopsy. He added that if other wounds were found on
other parts of the victim’s body, it would prove that the victim was
indeed tortured before her death.

APGA threatens to sue APC, Fashola for N2bn

| Chief Victor Umeh |
The
All Progressive Grand Alliance has threatened to sue the
newly-registered All Progressives Congress and the Lagos State Governor,
Babatunde Fashola (SAN), for listing it in an advertorial as one of
the four parties that merged to form the new party.
The National Chairman of APGA, Chief
Victor Umeh, stated this on Thursday just as the African Peoples
Congress described the recognition of the APC by INEC as “a black
market registration.”
Umeh, at a news conference in Abuja,
gave Fashola seven days’ ultimatum within which to publish a retraction
in the newspapers where he published the advertorial congratulating
the APC for a successful registration.
He said,” Coming from a senior lawyer,
we are sure that the governor knows the obvious implications of this
advertorial which we detest. It is a mischief contrived to deceive all
our teaming supporters in Nigeria and worldwide that APGA has now become
part of the APC. Governor Fashola cannot claim not to know that APGA
never submitted itself to any merger talks with the three parties(Action
Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change and All Nigeria
Peoples Party) and other interest groups that came together to form the
APC.
“He is aware that at no time did any
APGA official appear in any meeting where merger talks were held. He is
also aware that APGA leadership has consistently made it clear to
Nigerians that it was never part of the merger talks and will never be a
part of it.
“Surprisingly this (Thursday) morning,
our party’s logo was so fraudulently inserted in an advertorial with
the intention to deceive all our supporters.”
Umeh recalled that INEC while announcing
the registration of the APC named the parties that merged as the CPC,
the ANPP and the ACN, adding that the commission did not say it was
withdrawing the certificate of APGA, unlike the other three parties.
Umeh said, “How could a SAN, who is
also a governor of a state go and insert an APGA logo in a publication.
We want to make it abundantly clear that this was a clearly
orchestrated, premeditated action by Governor Fashola to deceive
supporters of APGA. On behalf of our party, we are calling on Governor
Fashola to publish a retraction of the advertorial removing APGA logo
in all the newspapers that our logo appeared today(Thursday) within
seven days.
“In addition to our demands for
retraction of the publication, we are also referring the matter to our
lawyers to formally write Governor Fashola to pay us N2bn in damages or
face legal action.
“While we congratulate the APC for
realising its dream of becoming a mega party called APC, fraudulently
using APGA logo will not be accepted by our party. Politics of confusion
must be avoided in Nigeria. Anybody can meet to do whatever he likes
but it must be within the law. The process of merging of political
parties is clearly known to everybody.
“ACN had its convention where they
approved that they would become part of the APC. ANPP had a convention
where its members also approved that they would become part of the
APC; the same with the CPC. But APGA was not known to have organised
any convention to approve joining the APC.”
The APGA chairman added another
dimension to the controversy over the dumping of over 70 destitute
persons in Onitsha, saying it was an attempt by the APC to plan
electoral malpractice during election in Anambra State.
He warned that any attempt to use the
destitute whom he claimed were non-Nigerians to perpetuate electoral
malpractice in the state would be resisted.
Also in Abuja, one of the groups that
constituted a stumbling block to the registration of the APC, the
African Peoples Congress, accused INEC of favouritism.
Vowing not to relinquish the use of
APC as part of its logo, it said the true ownership of the acronym
was still being contested in the court.
The National Chairman of the group,
Chief Onyinye Ikeagwuonu, insisted at a news conference that his
members were the first to apply to INEC for registration using the
acronym.
Ikeagwuonu said, “The decision of INEC
to reject our application for registration was baseless in view of the
fact that we complied with the provisions of the law and provided them
with the address of our national officers.”
“At the time INEC registered the APC,
the acronym, APC, was not available and up till now, it is still not
available as we, the original owners, are still pursuing the last phase
of our registration with the ongoing judicial review which the court
will soon rule on.”
He warned that when the court rules in
favour of the African Peoples Congress, Jega “would have led Nigerians
into an avoidable political landmine and a monstrous political disaster
that would reverberate in Nigeria’s political history for years to
come.”
But reacting to the allegations, the
Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said Jega
would not join issues with Ikeagwuonu on a matter that is in court.
He said, “My response is that INEC is
reluctant to join issues with him in matters that are already before the
court. INEC respects the court and because the matter is already in
court, it will be very improper to take up issues in the public. We look
forward to the processes in the court.”
Meanwhile, two prominent legal
practitioners, Femi Falana (SAN) and Fred Agbaje, have said that INEC
deserved no commendation for registering the APC.
In their separate reactions to the action, they said INEC had no choice but to register the APC as a political party.
Falana said instead of celebrating,
the APC “members should appreciate that the oppressed people of Nigeria
are desperately looking for genuine and far-reaching changes.”
He said, “The registration was anchored
on the fact that the merging parties in the APC met the
conditionalities stipulated by the Electoral Act. In the circumstance,
kudos should go to the defunct ACN, the CPC and the ANPP. The
deserving parties deserve to be congratulated for merging to challenge
the dominance of a reactionary political party that has threatened to
continue to capture power for 100 years.”
Agbaje, who had on Monday obtained a
judgment voiding the deregistration of 28 political parties, said, “
Our people can now make unhindered choice and this is where INEC
should be ashamed because it is the same INEC that is registering a new
party. Meaning that INEC has no busisness deregistering political
parties in the first place.
“I see the APC registration as an
opportunity for Nigerians to come out en masse and join political
parties of their own choice. This will ultimately deal a death blow
to the political monopoly of a particular political party that has held
the jugular of the nation in the last 14 years.”
